So, a couple years ago, I wrote the first installment of an epic fantasy trilogy. It was a difficult, anxiety-ridden writing experience, and I wasn’t sure I had it in me to write the full trilogy, so I set the first book aside, not sure what to do with it.
I hate hate hate hate hate not completing things, so it’s never been out of my head all this time.
Lately, I’ve been feeling the pull toward this story really hard, and I just re-read it. I think it’s really good, and that makes me even more frustrated not to finish the trilogy.
I feel like I’m ready to take on the rest of it and complete it. I’m going to work on Book 2 this summer.
Even more recently, I’ve been noodling around, trying to think of something fun and interesting to do for/with readers during this self-distancing/quarantine/peri-apocalyptic moment in history.
Yesterday, those two impulses collided, and I decided what I want to do. I’m going to publish this epic fantasy serially right here on the blog–a chapter a day for the next month or so (about 5 weeks of daily posting).
If you’re interested, read along. If you like it, maybe share it. If there’s reader interest, that will help me over the rough patches as I write on.
If there’s no reader interest, that will tell me something too, lol!
Anyway. I mocked up a quick cover for it last night and wrote a little blurb.
I hereby introduce you to THE CLEAVED WORLD, BOOK ONE: THE GATHERING.
Chapter One goes up tomorrow!
An exiled battlemage, once the most powerful warrior of her people, has been wandering alone for twenty years in a world that despises magic—because her magical people broke the world during a brutal war long ago. She’s been keeping a low profile, hiding her true nature, doing small services in a lonely effort to right that great wrong and to ease her own guilt. Over the years, she’s become a legend, a mysterious hero known only as the Rider.
When an old evil rises again, she’s thought to be the only one who might face it, and she’s called to save the world from the very same forces that broke it.
Only the Rider knows the danger she poses to the people who call her hero.
